HYPOVITAMINOSIS D

For many years AbiogenPharma has been active in the prevention and treatment of hypovitaminosis D, a particularly widespread condition in Italy, not only among the elderly but also in young people.

The main factors that can influence the state of the vitamin D include an intense skin pigmentation, the percentage of skin exposed to the sun, seasonality, latitude, the application of sun filters, irradiation time, age, obesity, the use of some pharmacological treatments. In children, a deficiency of vitamin D can lead to rickets, a pathology typical of childhood, characterized by a reduced mineralization of the bones that can become deformed and cause disability.

Rickets can also have long-term effects such as the alteration of the processes of acquisition of bone mass and an increased risk of osteoporosis in adulthood. In young adults and elderly people the persistent deficiency of vitamin D can cause osteomalacia and can contribute to the pathogenesis of osteoporosis.

Also, hypoviaminosis D can represent the most common cause of a failed response to the pharmacological therapy of osteoporosis. Several scientific contributions have described a diffuse condition of hypovitaminosis D in patients suffering from many other pathologies of which rheumatism, dermatologically extended pathologies and pathologies of the immune system are only an example.

AbiogenPharma has contributed in a substantial way to provide the medical class with adequate instruments for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D deficiency.
